Susse Frères (French, active 1839-1970s)
The Susse Frères firm was established in 1839 by brothers Michel Victor Susse and Amedee Susse, who set up a foundry in Paris. The company was famous for producing exceptionally cast bronzes, which often featured impressively applied patinas. In addition to works of sculpture, Susse Frères made delicate parts for furniture and clocks, collaborating with several French sculptors to produce refined designs. The company continued to be run by Susse family members until the 1970s.
